making a home in America

To say that I was intrigued with her hair is a total understatement, but I was even more fascinated by her story of living in a refugee camp most of her life. Her family was able to escape from the war in their country and come here to the U.S. about a year ago. So happy for them and the beautiful life they are building here. She told me she loves being able to wash her dishes and clothes in a machine. Her husband said, “Where I come from, men think ‘happy man=happy family’ but I’ve learned that it’s really ‘happy wife=happy family.'” He wishes all men in his country could learn respect for women.

I recently went to Europe with the nonprofit organization, Their Story is Our Story to photograph refugees, many who were very discouraged and lacking hope. I pray that they will be given opportunities like this beautiful family.
