Nyandeng Aleu
In February I had the opportunity to photograph Nyandeng Aleu, a refugee from South Sudan. She is as strong as her gaze and eager to share her inspiring story of loss and hope. She spent most of the early years of her life fleeing from country to country and experienced starvation, torture, bombings, the murders of her father and siblings, living amongst wild animals, and giving birth in the jungle, to name a few. About ten years ago, she was able to come to Utah with her five children and nephew. The second woman pictured above, is her mother, who she helped come to the United States last year. You can read more of Nyandeng’s story and learn a simple doable way to help local refugees in this post on the Familyshare blog.
